Initial Discovery

My initial discovery of the digital world was when I attended the Career Education Center’s Film and Video program in my Junior and Senior year of high school (1996-1998). The program allowed my first experiences with group collaborations from pre to post production and screen play writing.

College Career

Originally I was inspired to become a film and video major in my early days of college enrolled in the HEAT Centers Film and Video program in 1999. After a year of introductory video studies, I knew my direction was to be computer oriented. In 2000 I switched my emphasis to multimedia and design and enrolled in Red Rocks Community College’s multimedia studies curriculum. I was excited with my work at Red Rocks and spent five years as a full-time student building my software skills and technical knowledge which included print, web, photography, interactivity, video editing, and audio applications. I received honors for my work with an award of Phi Theta Kappa for excellence.

After Red Rocks I transferred to Metropolitan State College of Denver and obtained my Bachelor of Science in Technical Communications with a Multimedia emphasis. Metro’s curriculum taught me how to write, plan, and budget for small and large projects.

My skill-set and knowledge are well-rounded evidenced by five years of software application and technical training learning design fundamentals. I added to my curriculum two years of training applied to pre-production studies and communication concepts and graduated from Metro in 2006.

During my years as a full-time student and beginning my career, my son Kailer and I established our home together. He is now ten years old. As a single mom my son has inspired my creativity, purpose and incentive. I have enjoyed contract work as a free-lance designer for various small businesses and entrepreneurs since 2002 enabling me to study, explore many types of design projects, and be with my son in his early childhood development.

Current Status

I have worked for almost five years at a successful and rapidly growing employment and healthcare background screening company, American DataBank, located in the heart of Downtown Denver.  I am their web and graphic designer assisting sales, operations, and IT. Recently as of April 1, 2009, I joined the company accepting a salaried position. I have designed over 200 websites for American DataBank and their clients and am instrumental in maintaining these sites.  I also produce marketing materials such as brochures, business cards, large trade show graphics, customized and detailed service-oriented booklets for existing and potential clients, and PowerPoint presentations for our sales people to use in their marketing efforts.

My passion for design is always growing.  I enjoy learning and know that the digital world consistently provides new opportunities and challenges.  Technology is advancing and changing and I look forward to lifelong learning and growing in my expertise.  While working with an eclectic client base, I have learned to market for many types of genres ranging from artistic and abstract to corporate and minimalistic.

New Horizons

I am looking forward to develop my design skills further and broaden my career by seeking employment with an organization that offers: continual marketing opportunities, allows for artistic development and input of marketing concepts, provides a balanced work environment that is structured while allowing space for the design process to take place, and accommodates professional training courses when needed to maintain current technical standards.

My interests include involvement in my son’s many extracurricular activities such as, golf, soccer, baseball, and music.  I have dedicated myself to learning how to play the violin, creating electronic music and writing lyrics.  I enjoy writing poetry and creating large-scale mixed media collages. I am passionate in my design creations for music related projects and have done free-lance work for many musicians.  My son has joined me in learning to play the violin, so we work on this together as well.  I appreciate many cultural activities taking advantage of the opportunities we have living in close proximity to Denver University. We utilize the Richie Center for fun, exercise and sports training and the Newman Center at D.U. for concert venues and recitals.  I am a supporter of Swallow Hill Music Center and enjoy the entertainment offered there as well.  I support Kailer’s involvement in school and participate in fundraisers as time allows.  This is a brief overview of many interests which we have as a family and some that I enjoy and explore on my own.
